Yanki Deri, the son of Shas leader Aryeh Deri, is expected to be appointed co-chair of the Jewish National Fund, or KKL, according to a report by Channel 12. The position would give him an office, a car and aides, and make him responsible for KKL land matters.
The appointment has drawn attention because a similar role was once held by Momo Deri, Aryeh Deri’s brother. Aryeh Deri’s office stressed that the job carries no salary and is intended to be temporary until the position is filled permanently.
In a response, Aryeh Deri’s office said the post was originally meant for former MK Moshe Arbel, but he could not take it because of a conflict of interest. Since the role remained unfilled for months, the decision was made to appoint Yanki Deri on an interim basis. The office added that Yanki Deri has served for years on the board of the World Zionist Organization and will remain in the role until a permanent representative is named.
