Yanki Deri, the son of Shas leader Aryeh Deri, is expected to be appointed co-chairman of the Jewish National Fund, according to a first report by Channel 12 on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Under the arrangement, he would receive an office, a car and assistants, and would be responsible for the JNF’s land holdings.
The report noted that this is not the first time a member of the Deri family has held the post. Aryeh Deri’s brother, Momo Deri, previously served in the same role.
In response, Aryeh Deri’s office said the appointment is temporary and unpaid. The statement said the position was originally intended for former MK Moshe Arbel, but Arbel could not take it because of a conflict of interest. Since the post remained vacant for months, the decision was made to appoint Yanki Deri temporarily until a permanent representative is named.
According to the statement, Yanki Deri has served for years on the board of the World Zionist Organization and will hold the position until a permanent appointee is chosen.
