Jewish Family Subjected to Vicious Antisemitic Attack at Melbourne Airport

A Jewish family traveling from Melbourne, Australia, to Israel was subjected to a severe antisemitic attack at the international terminal of Melbourne Airport on August 28. An unidentified woman hurled curses and insults at the family, including calling them "baby killers," "Zionist Nazis," and "Zionist pigs." The family, which included an 11-year-old girl and a one-year-old baby, was waiting to board their flight when the incident began.

The father, who requested anonymity due to safety concerns, told Australian media that the harassment occurred three times. After the initial verbal assault near the boarding gate, the woman found the family again at security, where she confronted the father's sister, who was carrying a crying infant alongside her four-year-old daughter. The third encounter took place at a cafe, where security intervened to stop the woman's aggressive behavior.

The father reported that his 11-year-old daughter was left in tears by the ordeal, and the entire family was deeply shaken. He also stated that since the October 7th attacks, he has instructed his children to conceal their Jewish identity in public.

Dr. Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission, strongly condemned the incident and urged the Australian Federal Police to investigate immediately and apprehend the suspect. A spokesperson for Melbourne Airport stated that no official complaint had been filed but condemned all forms of antisemitism, emphasizing the airport's commitment to being an open and safe environment for everyone.
