Arab Nurse Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Patient, Released Twice

An Arab nurse working at HaEmek Medical Center in Afula was arrested in late August on suspicion of assaulting a female patient. The nurse allegedly injected the patient with an unknown substance and then touched her body while she was in a confused state. The patient noticed the actions and alerted the police, providing a statement while disoriented.

The police sought to extend the nurse's detention for further investigation. However, both the Magistrate's Court in Tiberias and the District Court rejected the police's requests, ruling that the investigation could proceed with the suspect released. The suspect has not been convicted, and the investigation is ongoing.

Senior police officials reportedly believe that the evidence presented justified continued detention, at least until key investigative steps were completed. Despite this, both courts determined that the suspect could be released without house arrest. The suspect's attorney stated that the court decisions indicate the weakness of the police's case.

HaEmek Medical Center issued a statement condemning any alleged mistreatment of patients by staff and affirming full cooperation with the police investigation. Due to the active investigation, the hospital declined to provide further details. The investigation into the suspect's alleged actions continues.
