Far-Right Activist Must Pay Compensation to Retired General Ziv

A Kfar Saba Magistrate's Court has ruled that far-right activist Ido Shifoni must pay approximately NIS 140,000 (about $38,000 USD) in compensation to retired Major General Yisrael Ziv. The ruling concludes a libel lawsuit filed by Ziv against Shifoni, in which Ziv had sought NIS 328,000.

The case originated from a December 2024 social media post by Ziv. In it, Ziv described how he, along with retired generals Noam Tibon and Yair Golan, rushed south on the morning of October 7, 2023, to assist in rescuing civilians, contrasting their actions with those who he claimed fled to hide. Shifoni responded to Ziv's post with a rhetorical question that, according to Ziv, implied he and his colleagues had prior knowledge of the attack's timing. Shifoni also linked Ziv to a "spy."

Shifoni's conspiracy theory suggested that Ziv and other retired generals were aware of the impending Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, in advance. The court found Shifoni's claims to be defamatory and baseless, ordering him to pay Ziv the compensation. The lawsuit was initially filed in January 2025.
