Degel HaTorah Leadership Considers Major List Shake-up

Top leaders of the Degel HaTorah political party, Rabbi Dov Landau and Rabbi Moshe Hirshel, held discussions regarding potential changes to the party's Knesset list ahead of upcoming elections. These talks come amid intensive negotiations between Degel HaTorah and Agudat Yisrael, the two main factions within the United Torah Judaism alliance.

The central focus of the discussions is the possibility of replacing current party leader Moshe Gafni and MK Uri Maklev with new representatives. Under consideration is a plan that would see MK Yaakov Asher assume leadership of Degel HaTorah, succeeding Gafni as party chairman. This potential reshuffling represents one of the most significant leadership changes for Degel HaTorah in recent years.

Concurrently, negotiations between Degel HaTorah and Agudat Yisrael have reached a preliminary agreement to establish a small forum of Knesset members from both parties. This joint forum will be tasked with managing sensitive and critical issues, including the highly contentious conscription law, which poses a complex challenge for the Haredi parties in their dealings with the government and the broader political system.

While the specific members of this new coordinating forum have not yet been determined, the agreement to its formation signals an effort by both factions to create a more unified and binding mechanism for strategic decision-making, moving away from separate management of key issues.
