Degel HaTorah and Agudat Yisrael Begin Negotiations Ahead of Upcoming Elections

Degel HaTorah and Agudat Yisrael have initiated negotiations in preparation for the upcoming elections. The first negotiation meeting between representatives of the two parties is scheduled for this evening, aiming to explore the possibility of running together again under the United Torah Judaism alliance. This meeting follows a period of significant tension, during which voices within Degel HaTorah called for considering an independent run. Meanwhile, internal disputes also arose within Agudat Yisrael regarding the leadership of the negotiations and the representation of various Hasidic factions.

Key issues expected to be discussed include the order of the electoral list, the division of roles, and the management of the election campaign. According to the longstanding agreement between the parties, a Degel HaTorah representative is slated to lead the joint list in the upcoming elections. While the opening of negotiations does not guarantee a final agreement, it marks a shift from declarations and threats to practical efforts to maintain the joint framework of United Torah Judaism, in which Agudat Yisrael and Degel HaTorah have run together since 1992.
