IDF Conducts Major Drills on Golan Heights Amid Stalled Syria Talks

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has concluded large-scale divisional exercises on the Golan Heights and near the Syrian border, according to the newspaper Maariv. The drills, conducted by the 210th Division, simulated responses to a sudden deterioration of the security situation, including explosions, mass casualties, and wounded soldier evacuations. The exercises also focused on medical evacuation, the deployment of reserve units, firepower, and special forces capabilities. Forces from adjacent sectors, the Home Front Command, emergency services, and local authorities participated alongside the 210th Division.

The maneuvers took place against a backdrop of stalled security negotiations between Israel and Syria. A key point of contention is Israel's insistence on maintaining its forces in a buffer zone within Syrian territory, which it views as crucial for its security. Despite these disagreements, talks between the two nations continue at various levels, with a focus on southern Syria and measures to de-escalate potential risks.

The IDF stated that the training incorporated lessons learned from the October 7th attacks and aimed to maintain a high level of operational readiness for a wide range of scenarios, including large-scale incidents with numerous casualties.
