Supermarket Fish Prices Vary Widely Ahead of Holiday Shopping
As Israelis prepare for the upcoming holiday season, a study has revealed significant price differences for popular fish fillets across major supermarket chains. The research, conducted by Niv Gilboa's "Galboa Index" program on i24NEWS, examined the cost of a basket of fish, highlighting consumer savings opportunities.
For fresh sea bream (dennis) fillet, Tib Tam emerged as the most expensive, charging NIS 159.90 per kilogram. Carrefour was slightly cheaper at NIS 149.90, while Rami Levy offered the lowest price at NIS 128.90 per kilogram.
Similar disparities were found in the price of fresh sea bass (lubrak) fillet. Carrefour was again the priciest at NIS 159.90 per kilogram. Mahsanei Hashuk followed at NIS 149.90, and Shufersal Deal was the most affordable option at NIS 139 per kilogram.
The study underscores the importance of comparing prices before making large holiday purchases, as choosing the cheapest retailer can save families tens of shekels.
