IDF and Shin Bet Detail Dramatic Raid Capturing Hamas Security Chief

A dramatic operation by Israeli forces successfully captured Moein Al-Arabeed, identified as Hamas's "security chief" responsible for intelligence and hostage affairs in Gaza. The operation, which involved extensive planning and creative camouflage, culminated in a close-range firefight within Al-Arabeed's villa in Gaza City.

According to a report in the Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat, the Israeli security agency Shin Bet had been tracking Al-Arabeed for an extended period, meticulously charting his daily routine and movements to identify a vulnerability. The operation itself began at least two days prior with the placement of an Israeli intelligence-gathering vehicle in the area.

On the day of the raid, special forces infiltrated Al-Arabeed's villa using disguised vehicles, including a white van and another carrying vegetables. Upon entry, a confrontation erupted as Al-Arabeed's family members and two bodyguards opened fire. The report states that Al-Arabeed's wife was killed by close-range fire, and his two sons and the bodyguards were seriously wounded. Al-Arabeed himself was shot, wounded, and apprehended by Shin Bet forces.

To ensure a safe withdrawal and neutralize further threats, heavy Israeli Air Force cover was provided, targeting military sites around the villa. The report also noted that two children were killed during the exchange of fire outside the house and the subsequent airstrikes. The intelligence vehicle left earlier was destroyed by missiles during the withdrawal to prevent any intelligence or equipment from falling into Hamas hands. Palestinian reports indicated four fatalities in Gaza City during the airstrikes.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the Gaza border area following the operation, stating, "Yesterday we took the Hamas security chief. We will certainly learn some things." He and Defense Minister Israel Katz later met with the Shin Bet operatives involved in the raid, commending their "daring and successful operation." The IDF and Shin Bet confirmed the operation was a targeted effort to neutralize Hamas threats, stating the captured individual was involved in consolidating Hamas's control in northern Gaza and planning terror attacks against Israeli forces and civilians.
