Rabbi Meir Pdida, Torah Leader Despite Illness, Dies at 56
Rabbi Israel Meir Yosef Pdida, a revered Torah scholar and supervisor at the Ohel Yosef Heichal Tzvi yeshiva in Bnei Brak, passed away Tuesday at the age of 56 after a prolonged period of suffering. Known for his unwavering joy and pleasant demeanor despite significant health challenges, Rabbi Pdida had undergone a leg amputation and multiple kidney transplants.
He collapsed at his home on Rav Ashi Street in Bnei Brak and was rushed to Mayanei Hayeshua Medical Center by emergency services. Despite extensive resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Born in Bnei Brak, Rabbi Pdida was the son of Rabbi Tzvi Pdida, head of the Heichal Tzvi yeshiva and the Or Gaon institutions. He studied at the Ateret Yisrael yeshiva under Rabbi Baruch Mordechai Elyashiv. He married and established his home in Bnei Brak, where he served as a Torah instructor at his father's yeshiva, Heichal Tzvi, even while battling diabetes and its complications.
His passing is mourned by his family, students, and the wider Torah community, who remember him for his dedication to teaching and his resilience in the face of adversity.
