Record Number of Israelis Apply for Election Day Jobs

A record approximately 260,000 Israeli citizens applied to work as election committee secretaries and purity of election supervisors for the upcoming 26th Knesset elections, the Central Elections Committee announced Wednesday. The most significant increase was seen in applications for purity of election supervisors, with about 55,000 candidates registering for the role. This represents a 145% surge compared to the approximately 22,400 who completed the process for the 25th Knesset elections.

Purity of election supervisors are stationed at polling stations to monitor and oversee the election day process. Their duties include documenting unusual events and the vote counting procedure to prevent fraud and ensure the integrity and transparency of the elections. The selection and screening process for these candidates is currently underway.

In addition to the supervisors, candidates also applied for positions as election committee secretaries. The combined total of applications for both roles reached the record high of 260,000. However, the Elections Committee emphasized that not all applicants will be hired.

"It is important to emphasize that completing the registration does not guarantee acceptance for the role. The screening and selection process is taking place these days, and only candidates who meet the required conditions and selection stages will be able to be assigned a role on election day," the committee stated.
