Russia Secretly Aiding Iran in Advanced Hypersonic Cruise Missile Development

Russia has been secretly assisting Iran in the development of advanced hypersonic cruise missiles, according to a report by the British newspaper Financial Times. The clandestine program, codenamed C430L, reportedly began in 2023 and involves Russian missile engineers and defense industry companies. Its primary objective is to develop a cruise missile engine capable of supersonic speeds.

The latest communications related to the program date back to June, indicating ongoing collaboration. The Financial Times report suggests that this effort involves transferring highly sensitive Russian military technology to Iran, something Tehran has sought for years. Such a program would necessitate approval from Russia's political leadership.

This development follows a separate report last month by Al-Hurra, an American news outlet, which cited sources claiming Iran received hundreds of anti-aircraft missiles from Russia and China. These shipments allegedly included around 300 shoulder-fired Verba (9K333) missiles that arrived via the Caspian Sea and were subsequently distributed by Iran's Revolutionary Guard. The sources indicated these missiles were deployed near sensitive sites in Tehran, Kermanshah, and Isfahan, as well as at border bases near Iraq's Kurdistan region and along the Strait of Hormuz coast.
