WhatsApp Web Glitch Blocks Users Attempting to Connect

Numerous Israeli users have encountered a troubling issue with WhatsApp in recent days, where attempting to link their mobile account to the web version via QR code scanning results in an immediate ban of their account on the mobile device. While some users have managed to regain access after filing an appeal, others report recurring problems and difficulty reconnecting to the service even after a ban is lifted.

Oshra Revach, a social network security expert and manager of a related support community, told Channel 12 News that he has received dozens of inquiries about this problem. He explained that the phenomenon primarily occurs when users try to pair a new device with WhatsApp Web by scanning a QR code. "The current trend is that anyone trying to connect to WhatsApp Web and failing gets blocked immediately. Those already connected are not affected," Revach stated.

Revach suspects the issue may stem from a recent update to WhatsApp Web and noted that reports suggest the bans are predominantly affecting Android users. He advises users to avoid connecting to WhatsApp Web for now. For those who have already been banned, Revach suggests filing an appeal and waiting approximately 24 hours before attempting to reconnect the account to the browser version.

Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has not yet issued a statement regarding this current phenomenon. Previously, the company has explained that it blocks accounts it deems to be misused, while acknowledging that errors can occur and are subsequently corrected to restore service to affected users.
