Basketball Rivals Clash Over Foreign Player Rules for Super Cup

A dispute has emerged between Tel Aviv basketball rivals Hapoel and Maccabi ahead of the Israeli Super Cup, which kicks off the season. Hapoel Tel Aviv formally requested that Maccabi Tel Aviv allow all foreign players to be registered for the upcoming Super Cup game. The Reds, as Hapoel is known, sent a letter to Maccabi proposing a EuroLeague-style format where teams could register their maximum number of players, stating the goal was for fans to see all the new players on the team. However, Maccabi rejected Hapoel's request. Both teams will be limited to registering five foreign players, the same limit as in the domestic league. The Super Cup game is scheduled for September 17th at Menora Mivtachim Arena.
