Settlements and Violence Escalate in West Bank Areas Under Palestinian Control

Extremist settlers have established a new outpost, Tel Talpiot, near the Palestinian village of Qusra, located in Area B of the West Bank, which is under Palestinian administrative control according to the Oslo Accords. Ynet military correspondent Elisha Ben Kimon explained that this outpost is strategically positioned to overlook the area, which settlers claim is critical for Palestinian control of mountain ridges in Judea and Samaria. The activity is concentrated around a structure in Qusra, providing a vantage point over the entire region.

Beni Kimon highlighted that according to the Oslo Accords, any settlement activity in areas outside of Area C, including outposts and access roads between settlements in Area C, is illegal. He noted that extremist settlers have consistently challenged the system over the years, initially focusing on open areas in Area C. However, since the current Israeli government was formed and following actions by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, these extremists have advanced into Areas B and A, intensifying friction.

The increased presence of these outposts, visible to the average Palestinian, is raising tensions and contributing to the escalating conflict, as exemplified by the events in Qusra. This situation underscores a broader trend of settlers pushing boundaries into areas with greater Palestinian control, leading to heightened friction and potential violence.
