Security Heightened Around Israeli Election Committee Chair Amid Tensions

Security measures have been significantly increased around the chairman of Israel's Central Elections Committee, Judge Noam Sohlberg, due to rising tensions surrounding his sensitive role. The decision to bolster security was made approximately two weeks ago, following a recommendation from the Police Commissioner to elevate Sohlberg's protection level until the upcoming elections.

The enhanced security is being implemented by the state's 'Magen' unit, which is responsible for the protection of public figures. This unit will handle the security details rather than regular Israel Police officers.

The heightened alert comes amid the security establishment's preparations for the elections and growing tensions related to Sohlberg's position as head of the election committee.
