Security Increased Around Israeli Election Committee Chair Following Threats

Security measures have been significantly enhanced around Noam Sohlberg, the chairman of the Central Elections Committee and Vice President of the Supreme Court. The Elections Committee stated that Sohlberg is being secured according to security needs and Israel Police directives, declining to provide further details on the security arrangements.

This decision follows an incident approximately two months ago when dozens of Haredi protesters gathered outside Sohlberg's home in Alon Shvut. During the protest, demonstrators allegedly shouted, attempted to breach his property, and threw a heavy object that shattered his car's windshield, causing damage to his vehicle and home. Police forces intervened, detaining dozens of suspects for disturbing the peace.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu strongly condemned the violent protest, stating, "I strongly condemn the violent rampage against Judge Noam Sohlberg. Law enforcement must exhaust the full severity of the law against the rioters." Justice Minister Yariv Levin echoed these sentiments, expressing solidarity with Sohlberg and his family and calling for an end to all violence, which he deemed unacceptable.
