Assaf Zamir's Diverse Career: From Child Actor to Diplomat and Deputy Mayor

Assaf Zamir, a prominent figure in Israeli public life, is celebrating his 46th birthday. His career spans various roles, including positions in the Tel Aviv Municipality, the Knesset, the Ministry of Tourism, and as Consul in New York. He is also widely recognized as part of a celebrity couple with his wife, Maya Wertheimer.

Before entering politics, Zamir had a childhood acting career, appearing in the 1990s children's series "Gingi." He also spent five years of his childhood in Florida before returning to Israel. His mother, Galia Goffer, is an actress and artist, and his uncle, Professor Yitzhak Zamir, served as Attorney General and a Supreme Court Justice.

Zamir holds a law degree from Tel Aviv University and studied French culture at the Sorbonne in Paris. He became the youngest deputy mayor in Tel Aviv's history at age 28 in 2008. In 2018, he ran against incumbent Mayor Ron Huldai for the position, losing but securing a significant percentage of the vote. He later rejoined Huldai's administration as deputy mayor.

In 2019, Zamir transitioned to national politics, serving as a Member of Knesset and later as Minister of Tourism. He resigned from the government in October 2020. From 2021 to 2023, he served as Israel's Consul in New York, a move that involved his family relocating to the city. Upon his return to Israel, he resumed his role as deputy and acting mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo.
