Singer Matan Hassan Releases New Song for High Holy Days

Israeli singer Matan Hassan, also known as 'M the Mystarvet,' has released a new song titled 'We Have Sinned Before You' in anticipation of the High Holy Days. The song blends traditional prayer lyrics with original text focusing on repentance and seeking forgiveness during the period of Elul.

The release follows Hassan's recent performance at the Caesarea Amphitheater. The new track aims to capture the unique atmosphere of the Days of Awe, referencing customs associated with the month and the connection of the Jewish people to tradition and the Western Wall.

The original lyrics delve into themes of spiritual purification, faith, and trust in God, alongside a call for unity and mutual forgiveness. The song incorporates familiar lines from the Selichot prayers, such as 'We have sinned before You, have mercy on us,' and traditional piyyutim (liturgical poems) like 'Master of Forgiveness, Searcher of Hearts,' lending the piece a sacred and moving quality.

The music and lyrics were a collaborative effort, with Shachar Yaakov, Matan Hassan, Eliran Eliyahu, and Omri Dahan credited for the composition. Dahan and Eliyahu also handled keyboards and programming. The production involved Hadar Zelikovich on musical production, Ariel Kadosh on guitars, and Itam Ben Yaakov on ethnic instruments. Additional vocals were provided by Assaf Kapelyo and Stav Tsagai, with mixing by Tal Epstein and Dor Reznik, and mastering by Ohad Nissim.
