Bennett's Party Faces Exodus Over Knesset List Representation

The 'Achim La'Israel' party, led by Naftali Bennett, is facing a significant internal crisis as its Ethiopian Israeli branch threatens to leave the party. The Ethiopian Israeli leadership is demanding guaranteed representation on the party's Knesset list for the upcoming elections.

According to reports, the leadership of the Ethiopian Israeli branch convened an emergency meeting last week after the party failed to commit to reserving a spot for the branch's chairman, Alali Adamsu. Adamsu stated that the branch has invested a year in political activities and building a base of thousands of activists, organizing home gatherings, conferences, and collecting data on tens of thousands. He described the lack of commitment as a "spit in the face."

Adamsu emphasized that representation on the Knesset list is a non-negotiable condition for their continued involvement in the party. He indicated that attempts to resolve the issue with the party leadership have so far been unsuccessful, and they are considering leaving if their demand for representation is not met. Adamsu asserted that the branch is not beholden to anyone and will leave if representation is not secured.

Correspondence with Bennett's close advisor, Nir Norkin, reportedly informed Adamsu that a "realistic spot on the upcoming Knesset list cannot be guaranteed." The Ethiopian Israeli branch comprises approximately 15 local committees and around 4,500 activists and supporters across various WhatsApp groups. With the deadline for finalizing party lists approaching, the branch awaits Bennett's decision, threatening to depart if they do not receive the promised representation.
