New Agricultural Settlement 'Beit Aron' Established in Jordan Valley

The new agricultural settlement of Beit Aron was established in the Jordan Valley on Sunday with the placement of its first structures. Approximately 20 families are preparing to move into the settlement, which is slated for official inauguration next month. The "Shomer Hachadash" organization, which is spearheading the initiative, views Beit Aron as the initial step in a broader plan called "Otef Yisrael" (Israel's Envelope). This program aims to establish additional settlements along Israel's eastern border and other frontiers.

Yoel Zilberman, founder and CEO of Shomer Hachadash, described the establishment as a "moment of revival and hope." He stated that the necessity for such a project became particularly clear following the events of October 7th, emphasizing the need to re-establish a presence along the borders and avoid large, uninhabited stretches. Zilberman likened the initiative to a "21st-century pioneer endeavor."

Zilberman outlined a vision for border regions to become "green belts" integrating young settlements, innovative industries, and solutions for food and water challenges. He also highlighted the plan's role in creating educational spaces and strengthening border communities. "Turning the great dangers on the borders into a positive creative force out of the war," he stated, calling it a "deep change in the security concept, based on the simple understanding that strong communities on the borders are an engine of growth for our national security."

Beit Aron is considered the first phase of the larger "Otef Yisrael" plan. Zilberman expressed gratitude to partners involved, including David Elhayani, Eyal Osterinsky, the Settlement Division, and the Jewish National Fund.
