Suspect Arrested in Jaffa Shooting, Illicit Weapons Seized in Central Israel

An indictment is expected soon against a man in his 30s from Jaffa, suspected of firing a weapon in the city center two weeks ago. Police apprehended the suspect shortly after the August 18th incident, finding him attempting to flee with a loaded handgun. No injuries were reported.

Following the arrest, the suspect was taken for questioning, jailed, and his detention has been extended periodically. With sufficient evidence now gathered, prosecutors intend to file charges in the coming days.

Separately, over the weekend, police in Tayibe, a city in central Israel, seized a Glock pistol, two loaded magazines, and gloves. Plainclothes officers and Border Police volunteers spotted a suspect who fled during an operation. The suspect discarded a bag during his escape attempt but was apprehended shortly after. The bag contained the firearm and ammunition.

This suspect, also in his 30s and a resident of Tayibe, had his detention extended until September 1st. The seized weapon and evidence are undergoing forensic analysis.

These two incidents, occurring days apart in different central Israeli cities, highlight the ongoing challenge posed by illegal firearms circulating in criminal circles.
