Hundreds of Haredi Men Enlist in IDF, Many for Combat Roles

Hundreds of young men from the Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) community began their military service on Sunday at the Tel Hashomer induction base, marking a significant enlistment drive. This wave of recruitment, expected to continue for two weeks, will see a large number of these new soldiers integrated directly into combat units, with paths tailored to their religious lifestyle.

Among the units where the recruits will serve are the Netzah Yehuda Battalion, the Hasmonean Brigade, the Arrow Company in the Paratroopers Brigade, and the Negev Platoon in the Air Force. The "Shomer Yisrael" association, which facilitates the integration of Haredi men into the IDF, expressed satisfaction with the growing numbers, attributing the success to preparatory programs at pre-military academies and Haredi Hesder Yeshivas.

Brigadier General (Res.) Yossi Levi, CEO of the association, stated that these young men demonstrate that it is possible to maintain a strictly religious identity while contributing directly to national security on the front lines. One recruit, Itamar Reinhold, inspired by his brother's service in Gaza, shared his motivation for joining the combat forces. Another recruit, Nachman, joining the Hasmonean Brigade, emphasized the current necessity for all sectors of society to contribute to the country's security.

Parents also expressed pride, with Rachel Zeitoun from Petah Tikva noting her son's clear decision to enlist in the Netzah Yehuda Battalion after leaving yeshiva. Rivka Yifrach from Bnei Brak shared her pride in her son joining the Negev Platoon in the Air Force, highlighting the mutual commitment and solidarity evident among the recruits and their families.
