Police Drone and Flare Foil Olive Grove Escape of Fugitives
Police in northern Israel apprehended two suspects early Monday morning after a car chase that ended in a dark olive grove. The incident began around 2:00 AM when officers on Route 70 noticed a vehicle driving erratically and dangerously. When police activated sirens and lights and ordered the driver to stop, he refused and sped away.
The suspect vehicle veered off the paved road onto a dirt path leading into an olive grove. As additional police vehicles closed in, the two occupants abandoned the car, which was left running, and fled on foot into the dense, dark grove.
To locate the fugitives in the difficult terrain and darkness, police deployed a drone equipped with thermal imaging and used a flare to illuminate the area. The drone's thermal camera identified the suspects lying on the ground amidst the vegetation. Guided by the drone, ground officers quickly located and apprehended the two men hiding in bushes.
One of the arrested individuals was identified as a 21-year-old resident of Laqia, and the other as a 26-year-old Palestinian from Nablus who was in Israel illegally. Both were taken into custody for further investigation. Police stated that such determined actions against lawbreakers and those who endanger public safety will continue with full force, utilizing all available technological and operational means.
