Israeli Education Ministry Probes Alleged Misuse of Public Funds by Teachers' Union

The Israeli Ministry of Education has launched an investigation into allegations that public funds were improperly transferred to the Teachers' Union. The inquiry follows reports that some teachers were registered as union members without actually belonging to the organization, raising concerns about the legitimacy of fund allocations.

The dispute intensified after Education Minister Yoav Kish received a letter from Ran Erez, the union chairman, containing personal accusations against him. Kish accused Erez of conducting personal campaigns against him funded by millions of shekels from union dues and public money. In response, Kish instructed ministry officials to prepare for a new mechanism to transfer funds to the union more transparently and securely.

Under the proposed plan, future payments will be made directly through each teacher's payroll slip, ensuring better oversight. Kish emphasized that no personal campaign would deter him from addressing potential misuse of public funds and affirmed his commitment to fulfilling his public duties without fear or external influence.
