Fallen IDF Officer's Parents Approved to Use His Sperm for Child

A court has granted parents permission to use the sperm of their son, Major Ofek Bachar, who was killed in Lebanon, to have a child. The decision came shortly before the wedding of his sister, Ofir, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the family's grief over the past two years since Ofek's death.

Ofek Bachar, a decorated combat officer who served in elite units like Egoz and Golani Brigade's reconnaissance unit, was killed on October 16, 2024, during an operation in southern Lebanon. He had previously been injured on October 7 while defending against Hamas terrorists in Kibbutz Be'eri, but returned to combat duty.

His parents, Ronit and Udi Bachar, pursued the legal battle to ensure Ofek's "continuity," a desire he had expressed to his father during a trip to Greece shortly before his death. He specifically requested that his father ensure his legacy continued and that his mother be informed later about how to proceed.

The court's decision, which took 10 months, relied heavily on the testimonies of Ofek's parents and two close friends, establishing his explicit wish for posthumous offspring. The court emphasized that this was not a general desire to be a father, but specific conversations about his potential death and the need for continuity.

Now, the Bachar family is seeking a woman who values having a child with Ofek's legacy, viewing it as an added value and a chance to become grandparents. They aim to find someone who will see them as a supportive family and be a full partner in raising the child, ensuring that Ofek's memory lives on through his offspring.
