Trump Unfamiliar With Israeli Politics, Trusts Netanyahu Exclusively

Former Israeli Consul General to Houston, Gilad Katz, revealed that the White House currently shows little interest in Israel's domestic political affairs, including upcoming elections. Katz stated that President Donald Trump himself has admitted to not recognizing many names in the Israeli political landscape, indicating a lack of engagement with the specifics of Israeli politics.

Katz explained that Trump's current focus is on domestic issues and the upcoming US midterm elections. He suggested that if Israeli politics were to become relevant to Trump, he would likely address it on his social media accounts, but as of now, it is not a priority.

Despite the lack of immediate interest in the elections, Katz emphasized the strong strategic relationship between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He described Israel under Netanyahu as Trump's "most loyal and trusted ally," highlighting that Netanyahu is the only leader Trump "fully trusts," surpassing his trust in European nations or other Middle Eastern countries.

This trust stems from a long-standing relationship and shared strategic interests, particularly concerning Iran's nuclear program and the dismantling of Hamas and Hezbollah. Katz noted that both leaders have known each other for years, fostering a stable partnership.

Katz concluded that Trump's primary focus remains on Middle Eastern economic and security issues, with a strong emphasis on pressuring Iran. He believes Trump maintains a "deep, continuous, and constant" relationship with Netanyahu, viewing him as a crucial ally in countering Iran and circumventing sanctions. Katz suggested that Trump's preference is to work with Netanyahu due to their shared goals and mutual understanding.
