Rally Planned Outside Prison 10 to Protest Detention of Torah Student Israel Gohfi

A solidarity rally is scheduled for Sunday evening outside Prison 10 in response to the detention of Israel Gohfi, a Torah student from Bnei Brak. The call to protest was issued jointly by Rabbi Moshe Maya, head of the Council of Torah Sages, and Rabbi Shalom Mahpud, a council member. They emphasized the obligation of the public to oppose the arrest of Torah scholars and defend the honor of the Torah.

In a letter titled "Go Gather All the Jews," the rabbis condemned the humiliation and persecution of Torah learners, specifically citing Gohfi's arrest and imprisonment for engaging in Torah study. They urged the community, especially residents of Bnei Brak, to heed the rabbis' directive issued at a previous assembly on the 14th of Tammuz, which called for united action if any yeshiva students or scholars from their city were detained.

The rally will take place at 9:00 PM on Sunday, the 17th of Elul 5786, outside the military prison at Neve Tzedek base. Organizers stressed that the event will be conducted with full respect for the law and under the guidance of leading rabbis and appointed coordinators. The rabbis reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the honor of Torah and its students, declaring they will not rest until this is achieved.
