Israel's Women Finish Second at Goalball World Championships and Secure LA 2028 Spot
Israel’s women’s goalball team finished runner-up at the World Championships in China after losing 12-4 to the host nation in Monday’s final. The result came after China had beaten Turkey, the Paris 2024 gold medalist, in the semifinals.
By reaching the final on Sunday night, Israel clinched its place at the Paralympic Games, earning the country’s first ticket to Los Angeles 2028. Team captain Lihiya Ben David said the squad was “full of happiness and pride,” adding that Israel had finished second in the world and secured the first berth for the Los Angeles Games. She said she hoped more Israeli athletes would follow and that the delegation would be large.
The championship, held in China, featured both of Israel’s national teams for the first time, the women’s and the men’s squads. The men’s team made its World Championships debut and finished 15th overall after placing third in its group stage.
Israel’s men then lost to Finland and Thailand, but ended the tournament with a 9-4 win over Egypt in a match played in a friendly and sportsmanlike atmosphere.
