Iranian Assassination Plot Targets Yair Netanyahu, Forcing His Urgent Return to Israel

An Iranian assassination plot aimed at Yair Netanyahu, the eldest son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was uncovered by Israeli intelligence last December. According to a report by the American network Newsmax citing a U.S. source, an Iranian agent cell operated in the Miami area, conducting surveillance on Yair Netanyahu’s residence and daily routine in Hallandale Beach, Florida. Upon discovering the threat, Israeli intelligence immediately alerted U.S. authorities, and Yair Netanyahu, accompanied by close Israeli security, was ordered to leave the area at once. He had to abandon his belongings and return urgently to Israel.

Prime Minister Netanyahu recently revealed the assassination attempt on one of his children without naming Yair explicitly, emphasizing that the security measures are not a luxury but a necessity. In July, the Shin Bet extended security protection for Netanyahu’s wife Sarah and their sons Yair and Avner for five years beyond his term, citing a real threat. Netanyahu stated, "Iran tried to kill one of my sons, so their security is not a luxury." He also mentioned requesting appropriate protection for former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot within the law.

This development comes amid escalating Iranian threats against families of world leaders. Iran recently broadcast a state television video targeting Barron Trump, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, suggesting methods for his assassination. The incident highlights the increasing risks faced by families of prominent political figures due to Iranian hostility.
