Israel’s Health Ministry said on Sunday that it has opened an epidemiological investigation after two children were hospitalized following consumption of Frinok baby fruit puree bought at Zol U’B’Gadol branches. Officials said they are examining whether the product is connected to the children’s medical condition.

The ministry said professional teams immediately began supervision, control measures, and urgent tests once the reports came in. At this stage, it said there is no way to determine with certainty that the hospitalizations were caused by the puree. The product in question was sold individually, not as part of a multipack.

Samples were taken from the product and all data related to the reported cases is being reviewed. Early information raised a suspicion of exposure to an anesthetic substance, and that possibility is under investigation.

Parents whose children consumed the product were urged to watch for unusual symptoms, including excessive sleepiness, fatigue, or confused speech. If such signs appear, the ministry advised contacting a pediatrician and calling its hotline at *5400, while noting the product consumption. The ministry also reminded the public to check that food packaging is sealed and intact, properly labeled, stored correctly, and has a normal appearance, color, and smell. It said it is coordinating with law enforcement and will continue updating the public as needed.
