Channel 14 and Chabad Inspect Mezuzahs in Businesses Ahead of Jewish High Holidays

Ahead of the Jewish High Holidays in the month of Elul, Channel 14 and Chabad Israel launched a joint initiative to inspect mezuzahs in homes and businesses to ensure their kosher status. Rabbi Gerlitsky visited Brixton, a valuables storage business in Tel Aviv, to check the mezuzahs on site. During the inspection, a concern arose regarding one of the Hebrew letters on a mezuzah, prompting Rabbi Gerlitsky to send it for a detailed examination at a specialized scribe institute (Setam).

Yoram, the company’s vice president, explained that their security approach combines physical protection with spiritual assurance, emphasizing the importance of having kosher mezuzahs for added security. Rabbi Gerlitsky noted that while initial checks can be done on site, any halachic doubts require professional verification and possible repairs at the Setam institute. He stressed that the ideal way to verify a mezuzah is through such expert examination before returning it to the business.

This initiative reflects a traditional practice during Elul, when many Jews check mezuzahs to prepare spiritually for the new year. The collaboration between Channel 14 and Chabad aims to raise awareness and help businesses maintain proper mezuzah standards as part of their security and religious observance.
