Health Ministry Warns of Unsafe Northern Streams After Abnormal Water Tests
Israel’s Health Ministry and Environmental Protection Ministry have warned the public not to enter several streams in northern Israel after water sampling found abnormal results. Tests carried out on June 14, 2026 showed elevated levels of fecal coliform bacteria above Health Ministry recommendations.
The affected sites are the Hatzbani, Jordan, Meshushim Pool, Gilbon, Zaki, Al Al, Tzalmon and Ein Hardalit streams. The highest readings were recorded at Meshushim Pool, 3,000, Ein Hardalit, 2,100, and at the Geshar Lehavot HaBashan site on the Jordan River, 1,900.
The Environmental Protection Ministry said it had not identified a known source of pollution. Entry to the streams is banned until repeated sampling shows stable, normal results.
