Former National Security Official Talia Lanceri Joins Liberman, Rejects Arab Parties in Future Israeli Government

Talia Lanceri, a retired lieutenant colonel and former deputy head of Israel's National Security Council, recently joined Avigdor Liberman's Yisrael Beiteinu party and set firm conditions regarding coalition formation after the upcoming elections. In an interview on the "Musical Chairs" podcast by Shirit Avitan Hacohen on Israel Hayom, Lanceri was asked about the possibility of political cooperation or reliance on Arab parties to form the next government. She responded unequivocally, stating she strongly opposes including Arab parties in the coalition. Lanceri cited the complex national and security reality Israel faces following the October 7 attacks, emphasizing that the country no longer has the privilege to consider such alliances. She stressed that national decision-making must remain in the hands of the Zionist majority.

Lanceri highlighted the need for a Zionist government capable of making tough decisions independently, especially given the current difficult circumstances. She said, "We need to protect ourselves on our own. We have reached a reset point after October 7 and must rebuild ourselves both security-wise and socially." She called for replacing the current government to meet these challenges. Avigdor Liberman has expressed similar views, warning that cooperating with Arab parties could cost him and others electoral support. The statements reflect a hardening stance within parts of the Israeli right-wing political spectrum regarding coalition partners in the post-war context.
