Liberman Expands Yisrael Beiteinu with New Members Amid PM Ambitions

Yisrael Beiteinu, led by Avigdor Liberman, is experiencing a notable rise in polls, growing from a steady seven to eight seats to around ten mandates. Communication strategist Moran Shmueloff attributes this surge to Liberman's efforts to broaden the party beyond its traditional base of former Soviet immigrants. However, the influx of new candidates creates internal challenges, as the limited number of seats raises questions about who will realistically secure a spot on the list. Liberman has stated he will not guarantee any candidate a realistic position or interfere with the list composition this time. While Liberman presents himself as a prime ministerial candidate, Yisrael Beiteinu alone cannot form a government. He rejects coalitions with Netanyahu and the ultra-Orthodox parties, necessitating partnerships elsewhere.

This brings the Democratic Party of Yair Golan into consideration, with statements from Yulia Malinovsky suggesting potential cooperation. This reveals Liberman's dilemma: to attract right and center voters while keeping options open for alliances with parties to his left. The key question for Yisrael Beiteinu in this election is whether Liberman is on track to become prime minister or the kingmaker deciding who will lead Israel. If the party continues to grow, it could transform from a survival-focused faction into a decisive "swing party" that no political bloc can ignore.
