Man Wears Shirt With Threatening Anti-Jewish Slogan in North London, Police Investigate
A man was recorded wearing a shirt bearing a threatening anti-Jewish slogan in a predominantly Jewish area of North London while shopping. The incident occurred last Friday around 3:35 PM at a Sainsbury's supermarket on Williamson Street in Haringey. The shirt displayed the phrase "Khaybar Khaybar yaa Yahud," an Arabic battle cry referencing a 7th-century conflict where Muslim forces led by Muhammad attacked Jewish inhabitants of the Khaybar oasis in present-day northern Saudi Arabia.
The incident was reported to police by a Jewish man who was shopping with his children and alerted authorities. Initially, police were unaware of the historical and threatening context of the slogan but, after consulting experts, classified the case as a racially aggravated public order offense. The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are in contact with the victim and are continuing to investigate the identity of the man, who has not been arrested.
The Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA), which publicized the case, condemned the intimidation and called for full legal consequences. The organization highlighted the increasing brazenness of such hate speech in public spaces and emphasized the ongoing bullying and abuse faced by Jews. CAA urged anyone with information about the man to confidentially assist the investigation.
