Netanyahu Reveals Iran Tried to Assassinate One of His Sons

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disclosed on Monday that Iran attempted to assassinate one of his sons, information that was previously classified. Speaking to Channel 14, Netanyahu described the attempt as "unbelievable" and confirmed that Iran targeted his son, emphasizing the critical importance of security measures to prevent such attacks.

The Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet) and Mossad assessed that Netanyahu and his family face a high-level threat throughout their lives due to Iranian motives to retaliate for the killing of senior Iranian figures. Following this assessment, on July 16, the Cabinet Committee on Shin Bet Affairs approved lifetime security protection for Netanyahu and his wife, Sara. His sons will receive security for five years even if Netanyahu leaves office.

Two years ago, it was revealed that Shin Bet and the Israeli police arrested Moti Maman, a 73-year-old Ashkelon resident, who was recruited by Iranian intelligence to assassinate Israeli officials, including Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar. Maman was smuggled into Iran twice and paid for his missions, motivated by financial difficulties.
