Spanish Restaurant Worker Fired After Refusing to Serve Israeli Family

A restaurant worker in northeastern Spain, identifying herself as Shaima, claims she was fired after refusing to serve and translate for an Israeli family visiting the establishment. The incident took place on August 14 at the Sotavent restaurant in the coastal town of Tossa de Mar. According to Shaima, a colleague asked her to translate for a group of five diners, consisting of two couples and three children. Upon learning they were Israeli, she immediately refused, stating, "What? Israel? No, I don't want to translate... I don't want any contact with that table, I don't want to approach or talk to them."

Shaima posted a video on social media defending her stance, saying, "I have the right, I do not accept the genocide happening in Palestine. I will not serve any Israeli who comes here to eat, under any circumstances." Minutes after her refusal, the restaurant manager reportedly told her to collect her belongings and leave. As of now, there has been no independent confirmation of the restaurant's official position on the matter. This event occurs amid a tense period marked by rising antisemitic incidents and hostility toward Israelis in Spain.
