Ultra-Orthodox Protesters Plan to Block Highway 4 Over Draft Evasion Arrest

Extreme ultra-Orthodox protesters are expected to block Highway 4 this Monday afternoon in protest against the arrest of a draft-dodging ultra-Orthodox man. The demonstration, likely to begin at 5:00 PM, will be led by students of Rabbi Tzvi Friedman in response to the detainee being transferred to military police custody.

The police have warned of possible traffic disruptions and changes in the Bnei Brak area, specifically from Aluf Sadeh to Em HaMoshavot in both directions, with potential congestion and blockages on Jabotinsky Road. Authorities recommend that drivers use alternative routes and stay updated on traffic conditions, advising the public to avoid these areas. The Israeli Police emphasized that they recognize the right to protest as a democratic cornerstone, permitting demonstrations as long as they remain within legal boundaries.

This is not the first such incident; about a week and a half ago, the "Jerusalem Faction" also blocked Highway 4 in both directions. In recent months, ultra-Orthodox factions have frequently disrupted traffic to protest arrests of draft evaders. Although the Knesset recently passed a law to cancel arrests of draft dodgers, the Supreme Court issued a temporary injunction freezing the law following four petitions against it.
