Carolina Wins Its Second NHL Title After Beating Vegas in Six Games
The Carolina Hurricanes captured the NHL championship for the second time in their history, winning the Stanley Cup after defeating the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 in the final series. In the deciding game, played early Friday morning in Las Vegas, the visitors closed out the title with a 3-0 victory.
The series results were 5-4 for Vegas, 4-3 for Carolina, 5-4 for Vegas, 5-3 for Carolina, 4-2 for Carolina, and 3-0 for Carolina. Both finalists reached the Stanley Cup Final for the third time, and each had one previous championship. Vegas lost the 2018 final before winning the title in 2023, while Carolina last reached the final in 2006, when it also won after previously losing in 2002.
Carolina finished the playoffs with an impressive 16-3 record. Its only losses came once against Montreal in the semifinals and twice in the final. Jordan Staal was named the playoff MVP.
