Carolina Wins Its Second NHL Title After Beating Vegas in Six Games
The Carolina Hurricanes won the NHL championship for the second time in franchise history, clinching the Stanley Cup by defeating the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 in the Final. The title is Carolina’s first in 20 years, after its previous championship in 2006.
In the deciding game, played early Wednesday morning in Las Vegas, the visiting Hurricanes sealed the series with a 3-0 victory. The Final results were 5-4 Vegas, 4-3 Carolina, 5-4 Vegas, 5-3 Carolina, 4-2 Carolina, and 3-0 Carolina.
Both finalists reached the championship round for the third time in their histories and each now has one prior title. Vegas lost the 2018 Final, then won the Cup in 2023, while Carolina lost in 2002 and won in 2006.
Carolina finished the playoffs with a 16-3 record, losing only once to Montreal in the semifinals and dropping two games in the Final. Jordan Staal was named the playoff MVP.
