Israel Conducts Secret Talks with Turkey to Avoid Conflict Amid Syrian Strikes

Following Israeli airstrikes in Syria that heightened tensions with Turkey, an Israeli security official revealed that secret communication channels are active between the two countries to prevent clashes. The official emphasized that Israel does not wish to turn Turkey into an enemy but will act if diplomatic messages fail. Israel has set clear red lines against Turkish military entrenchment in Syria, particularly opposing the deployment of air defense systems, drones, and missiles that could threaten the Israeli Air Force's freedom of operation.

In line with these red lines, the IDF targeted buildings and runways at the al-Dohour airbase in northern Syria before Turkish equipment could be deployed. Israel conveyed to the Syrian regime that it does not oppose the Syrian army's development but will not allow new threats near its borders. Turkey denied any military presence at the attacked base, stating no Turkish military delegation was there before or during the Israeli strikes.

Additionally, Israeli security sources informed the United States that Turkey planned to install radar and later air defense systems operated by Turkish troops at the al-Dohour airbase, approximately 70 kilometers from the Turkish border. This move was seen as potentially altering the regional power balance. Israel did not specify when the Turkish systems might arrive but identified al-Dohour as a likely deployment site. The developments come amid broader regional tensions and diplomatic efforts, including Mossad's contact with the Syrian foreign minister regarding Turkey's presence in Syria.
