Israel Warns US of Turkey Deploying Radar at Syria's Al-Douhour Airbase
Israeli security officials informed the United States that Turkey is preparing to deploy radar systems at the Al-Douhour airbase in northern Syria, which Israel recently struck. The intelligence, revealed by Israeli media, indicated that Turkey might later add air defense systems operated by Turkish troops at the site. Israeli sources emphasized that this move could significantly alter the regional balance of power. Although no specific timeline was given for the arrival of Turkish systems, the Al-Douhour base, located about 70 kilometers from the Turkish border, was identified as a likely location.
An Israeli official told Kan News that the recent Israeli airstrike targeted the runways at Al-Douhour to prevent the arrival of equipment or troops by air, primarily sending a warning to the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The official stated that since diplomatic messages failed to deter the activity, Israel resorted to a precise warning strike. Earlier, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant confirmed that Syria was warned ahead of the strike in an attempt to avoid the attack, which was only carried out after the Syrian regime ignored the warning.
Gallant stressed Israel's commitment to preventing any threat to its security, referring specifically to the Turkish activity at the airbase as a danger. The report also briefly mentioned ongoing Turkish military advances in northern Syria and a statement from the US envoy to Syria accusing Israel of occupying the Golan Heights.
