IDF Monitors Gaza Balloon Activity Amid Concerns of Hamas Testing Alertness

On Friday, a balloon was detected near Kibbutz Nahal Oz in the Gaza border area, followed by the identification of three additional balloons during Saturday morning patrols. The balloons are believed to have crossed into Israel from the Gaza Strip. No suspicious materials or explosives were found on any of the balloons, and at no point was the public in danger. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) maintain continuous communication with local communities in the Gaza envelope region.

A security official told Srugim that the IDF suspects Hamas may be using these balloon flights to test Israeli alertness. The official noted that while the balloons appear to be mostly launched by children, the situation is under investigation. "So far, no explosives or threats have been detected on any balloon, but that does not mean it won’t happen in the future," the official said. He emphasized that the current operational reality differs significantly from the period before October 7, as Israel now controls approximately 63% of the Gaza Strip territory.

The IDF stated that if it determines action is necessary against the balloons, it will take measures accordingly. Meanwhile, security forces continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent any escalation or threat to civilians.
