Nahariya Wins National Education Award for 2026 for Community and Emergency Response
Nahariya has been selected as one of the recipients of the 2026 National Education Award, representing Israel's Northern District. The award committee highlighted the city's educational system for its strong values-based and community education, emotional and social support provided to students and staff during times of war and emergencies, and the integration between formal education, informal education, and the local community.
Mayor Ronen Merly credited the achievement to a collaborative effort involving the municipality, the education administration, the Northern District of the Ministry of Education, parent leadership, and dedicated educational teams. Merly emphasized that the award reflects years of joint work and deep partnerships aimed at creating an optimal environment for Nahariya's children to grow, develop, dream, and succeed.
The award will be formally presented to city and education representatives at a ceremony next month at the Binyanei HaUma convention center in Jerusalem.
