Iran Restores 70% of Strategic South Pars Gas Facility After Israeli Strike

More than a year after an Israeli attack severely damaged the South Pars gas field in Iran, Tehran announced it has completed 70% of the restoration work at the Phase 14 gas refinery. The facility, critical to Iran's energy sector, is expected to resume full operations by the end of 2026. The Israeli strike in June 2025 caused a fire and temporarily halted part of the refinery's output, cutting gas production by an estimated 12 million cubic meters per day.

Phase 14 was originally designed to process over 56 million cubic meters of gas daily and produce tens of thousands of barrels of valuable condensate hydrocarbons. Since the attack, Iran has been working to recover lost production capacity. By May 2026, Iranian officials reported that three offshore platforms in South Pars resumed gas extraction, although their output had been suspended due to damage to onshore processing facilities.

To maintain gas flow during repairs, Iran redirected production to other refineries in the region while continuing restoration at Phase 14. The South Pars field is vital for Iran’s economy, supplying much of the natural gas used for electricity, industry, and heating. Prolonged production disruptions risk exacerbating energy shortages during peak demand periods. This recovery effort follows ongoing tensions and sanctions related to Iran’s nuclear program and regional conflicts.
