Galit Gilboa Shares Journey From Fiancé’s Death to Parenting Mission
Galit Gilboa was a young bride-to-be when her fiancé, Gadi Ezra, was killed in battle in Jenin during Operation Defensive Shield. In a heartfelt interview with Dr. Chana Katan on Channel 7, Gilboa recounts the moment she learned of his death and the profound impact it had on her life. Gadi had once asked her to open a letter he wrote only decades later, but she had to open it much sooner after his death. In the letter, he promised to watch over her and find her the best husband, a blessing she says she received despite never marrying him.
Gilboa’s path from grief led her to a deepening faith, despite growing up in a non-religious home. She describes a gradual spiritual transformation, including adopting modest dress and seeking guidance to connect with God. This personal journey now informs her work as a sought-after parenting coach, where she emphasizes the importance of emotional presence and genuine attention over material gifts or extracurricular activities.
She stresses that the most valuable “activity” for a child is the authentic engagement of a parent, such as a few minutes of real listening or sincere interest in the child’s day. Gilboa encourages parents to release guilt and recognize their successes, reminding them that self-compassion fosters compassion toward their children and family. Ahead of the month of Elul, she urges parents to pause, learn parenting tools, and involve their partners in the process, turning personal growth into family growth.
Dr. Katan concludes that Gilboa’s story highlights how education and parenting begin not with methods but with kindness and a positive outlook toward oneself, one’s children, and the sacred responsibility entrusted to parents.
