Teen from Nablus Allegedly Used Dead Man's ID to Get a Job in Tel Aviv
A 17-year-old from Nablus, who was in Israel without a permit, was arrested Monday after police said he tried to get work at a commercial center in north Tel Aviv by presenting the identity-card photo of a deceased person. Police also detained a Jaffa resident in his 30s whom they suspect helped place the worker at the site.
The case began on Sunday afternoon, when civilians alerted police. Patrol officers from the Tel Aviv North station arrived at the shopping center and checked a man who had come there to start working. During the inspection, they determined he was a minor from Nablus staying in Israel illegally and that he had allegedly used a dead person's ID details.
He was taken into custody on suspicion of unlawful stay and impersonation. Police said the Jaffa resident was later linked to the incident as the person who apparently brought the worker to the location.
The minor was jailed and was due to appear later Monday in juvenile court. The Jaffa suspect was transferred for questioning, and the investigation is continuing.
