Coalition clash delays daycare subsidies and inquiry committee bills
A fresh dispute erupted in the coalition on Monday with Haredi representatives after two controversial bills, the daycare subsidies bill and the bill to establish a non-state investigative committee, were expected to come up for a vote but now appear likely to be postponed.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided to hold off advancing the legislation after identifying public opposition to the measures. According to the report, he asked for time before moving them forward.
United Torah Judaism accused Netanyahu of abandoning the Haredi parties, which he had previously described as the Likud's “natural partners.” Party sources said, “Netanyahu has lost control of the coalition factions, he does not know how to line up Smotrich’s party members or Likud members. They told him the law is causing public harm, so he is backing away from the bloc.”
